About SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY EDUCATION BUILDING
As part of the originally designed Arthur Ericson University Campus started in 1963. The Education building was completed in 1978.
Constructed 41 years previously brought many challenges to the Renewal Project such as working with existing concrete floor slabs that were uneven. Existing openings are not consistent and not finished to today’s standard made measuring and installation very complex.
Utilizing daylighting was one of the keys of the Renewal design by the Office of McFarlane Biggar Architects + Designers Inc to improve the dark cavernous hallways. With the addition of skylights and cutting open the second level floor to allow natural light to flood deep within the structure.
LITEFLAM XT 60 played a key role in allowing the architect to make dramatic and energy-saving design changes while maintaining the life safety requirements of the fire separation between floors.
